A wet day and slippery conditions against the Jindalee Jags at Jindalee Recreational Reserve set the scene for a triumphant first win of the season for the Jimboomba Redbacks under 15 girls, who came away with a 37-9 win.
It was too hard to pick the best player on the day as it was a hard fought game with everyone putting in a stellar effort to keep the Jags at bay.
Goals were kicked by Aliesha Alford (1), Brodie-Lee Baker (2), and Tahlia Milne (2) with the team also kicking seven behinds to give them a convincing winning score of 1.3-9 to 5.7-37.
Under 13
After a great week on the training track, the under 13s team brought their enthusiasm to the game against Wilston Grange White, which helped them get a 56-42 victory.
Playing at Fassifern Kalbar Showgrounds, they jumped out of the blocks, winning early centre clearances resulting in the two first quarter goals to Zac Bond.
Two outstanding individual efforts by Kaleb Nolan to kick goals capped off an impressive first half where the Redbacks led 7-0-42 to 2-2-14 at half time.
Wilston Grange responded in the third quarter with a couple of quick goals.
Alistair Collins, who won the Flagstone Takeaway award, tackled hard and created runs out of the backline all match helping to halt the opposition’s momentum.
Liam Disley and Matthew Gilham worked hard in defence as the Redbacks held their nerve in the last quarter to run out winners 9-2-56 to 6-6-42.
It was a fantastic all-round team effort to record their first win of the year.
Under 11
The Redbacks under 11 team played Sherwood White at home on Saturday in warm and sunny conditions, losing 70-18.
The team again worked extremely hard against a more experienced outfit, ultimately going down 11.04-70 to 2.6-18.
Once again, their best quarter was the third, where they were more than competitive and only a goal on the siren meant the team lost that quarter.
The Redbacks played best in the midfield, sending surge after surge into the forward line, as well as repelling a number of attacks from the opposition.
Players performing strongly included Jarryd Coleman, who constantly moved the ball forward, Billy O’Neil, who repelled numerous attacks from the backline, Luke Brisbane, Owen Maguire and Corbin Kamimski who excelled at attacking the ball, and Tony Damouni and Bryden Wallace who were always in the mix.
With the great play and attitude displayed by everyone throughout the game, the team is ready for their match against Sherwood Black.
