Duxes from across the region were celebrated at the annual ENABLE dux dinner on March 1 at Windaroo Valley State high school.
ENABLE is a coalition of 13 state high schools from across Logan and Scenic Rim that work together in different layers of collaboration to pursue quality outcomes for staff members, students and other stakeholders.
Dinner was prepared and served in the Valley View restaurant by students enrolled in kitchen operations and hospitality certificates, with rave reviews from the crowd of approximately 50 people.
Dux graduates from Flagstone State Community College Alexandra Lindsay and Kohatu Brooking both attended the evening and were pleased to celebrate their high school achievements.
Alexandra has started her bachelor of Landscape Architecture.
Kohatu is currently completing his entrance exams for entry onto the New Zealand Air Force.
Both received an OP 4 in completely different subjects.
Alexandra said it was fun to be able to share such significant moments with Kohatu.
“We were both school captains together and then we both got the same OP,” she said.
Kohatu said the evening was fabulous and wanted to recognise the efforts of the student who prepared and served the meals.
“It’s really a privilege to be here tonight,” he said.
Browns Plains State High School Dux Sharni Embrey and Park Ridge State High School Dux Amber Wedge were unable to attend the evening.
Loganlea State High School principal/ ENABLE Co-Chair Belinda Tregea said 2015 saw 1895 students complete Year 12 from across the ENABLE Schools.
“Congratulations on achieving the highest academic accolade that you can receive from high school,” she said.
“We are here to celebrate your achievements and acknowledge the hard work and passion you put towards your studies and commend you on your outstanding achievement.
“The students here are a diverse bunch this year – proving that there are many pathways to achieve academic success.
“The students here tonight have excelled at a range of subjects.
“While maintaining outstanding academic results these students have had solid achievements outside the classroom as well.”
Windaroo Valley State High School students performed instrumental pieces at the beginning of the evening and Year 12 Flagstone Community College student Josh Camilleri performed his own composition entitled ‘Lost’.
Logan mayor Pam Parker said the students were just so very inspiring.
“None of this is possible without the dedication of our teacher, you are shaping the future” she said.
“And students we hope you continue on your path of excellence.
“These students are leaving for bright horizons and we are very proud of them.”
Member for Beaudesert Jon Krause said the standard of the evening was great.
“We’ve got some wonderful students in our region being educated by very dedicated teachers,” he said.
“It is a big transition for them to go off into the real world but we support them and wish them well.
“We want to hold up and recognise our high achievers, they are bright kids with top results and we are saying well done and good luck.”
