Jimboomba Little Athletics has achieved its best result ever at the South East Regional Championships held over the weekend at the State Athletics Facility, Nathan, with 71 children progressing through to the Queensland State Championships being held at the QEII Stadium next month.
Local athletes won a huge total of 160 medals which included 60 gold, 49 silver and 51 bronze with eight children also breaking regional records in a day to remember.
Jimboomba Athletics centre manager, Peta Smith, said it was a fantastic weekend with Jimboomba athletes featuring prominently in most events.
“Even rain showers didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of Jimboomba athletes who competed strongly and supported each other throughout both days,” she said.
“Most events included multiple Jimboomba athletes with nearly every athlete coming away with a personal best.
“Athletes may only nominate in a maximum of five events and we had many athletes this year who qualified for the state championships in all of their events.
“Some of these athletes included Alarni-Felila Kia, Sam Windsor and Fletcher Pearce in the Under 12 age group, Kodi Pearson and Lachlan Tate (under 14), Dean Brettoner, Mathew Stockham and Tyron MacKinnon (under 15) Camryn Newton-Smith, Ryan Hanser, Kyle Howlett and Kelsie Willoughby (under 16) and Matthew Lenz (under 17).
Athletes who will be representing Jimboomba for the first time at the state championships include Keiani Maluri, Gemma King, Imogen Gee, Shonee Giddings, Miah Ward, Bella Bess, Aysha Ozden, Laura Kenny, Abby Howden, Ashley Brettoner, Lilly Pearce and Emily Willoughby.
In boys events, new representatives will be Kyle Howlett, Sam Windsor, Cooper Rennie, Jayden Ruska, Sam Emblen, Kyle Howlett, Charlie Schultz, Zayde Smith, Lachlan Tate, Justin Sarah, Ryan Fogarty, Cooper Kihlstrom-Ballin, Daniel Boyd, Ryan Solomon, Fletcher Pearce, Sean Howlett, Jack Addley, Nathan Cross and Tristan Cross.
Regional records were broken by Camryn Newton-Smith in multiple events including the under 16 high jump, long jump, 400m and 90m hurdles, Mitchell Fekete (under 16 discus) Josii Hargreaves (under 12 1500m walk), Jessica Hewson (under 14 200m), Sam Windsor (under 12 high jump) Motootua Kia (under 10 shot put and discus), Erinn Howden (under 16 hurdles) and Matthew Lenz (under 17 high jump).
