Last week Emmaus College welcomed in the school year and their 2016 captains at the Beginning of School Year Liturgy.
The liturgy focused on spreading hope and peace through the year with pastors from the four faith traditions Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran and Uniting Church involved in the morning.
College Captains Rebekah O’Brien and Daniel Russell, together with P – 6 Captains Ala Frankcom and Lachlan Freeman were badged and pledged to serve the school community by continuing to build unity and spirit in the school they are proud to serve.
Principal Kevin Schwede said he was encouraged by the large number of parents who attended the ceremony to support their children and the College.
“2016 is shaping as a highly successful year built on the strong partnerships that exist between students, staff and families,” he said.
“There is an importance of working as a community that supports each other and challenges students to take every opportunity presented during the year to further their learning.”
College Captains Rebekah O’Brien and Daniel Russell are looking forward to the many opportunities they will have to connect and work with students and staff from across the P – 12 College community.
Rebekah said Emmaus is already very friendly, but it’s her hope that all students will feel confident that they can talk to any senior student.
“I want to try and make every other student’s journey at school as good as mine has been,” she said.
Daniel said the staff at Emmaus College genuinely care about their students as people.
“In return, the student leaders want to give back to the school and serve the College community well, to say thank you and we want to continue the work of the leaders that have come before us,” he said.
P – 6 captains Ala Frankcom and Lachlan Freeman said they were excited to be part of the team that organises activities to enrich their learning community.
“Sports carnivals, house competitions, liturgies, fundraising for charity, socials and exciting events like being involved in our school musical Aladdin Jr, really make school fun and help everyone to feel that they are welcome and part of a community,” they said.
College, Community and House Captains, along with Student Council Representatives were also announced during the liturgy.
