TWENTY-FOUR local students will be that much more noticeable on the roads this month as they sport flashy new bicycle helmets.
The students won the gear in recognition of their efforts in the recent Jimboomba Police and Jimboomba Times road safety colouring-in competition.
Among the winners were Jimboomba State School student Edward Fitzgerald, 7, and Canungra State School student Jordan Narcisi, 9.
Jordan said he had learned the importance of wearing a helmet when cycling.
For Edward, the lesson was in holding an adult’s hand when crossing the road.
Jimboomba Police Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh praised the efforts of all 50 students who entered the competition.
He said it was wonderful to see the students learn the road safety message.
“They all learned something,” he said.
“It sparks conversations within families, we are trying to reach local parents through these kids.”
Twenty-two students from Hills College in Jimboomba have also been recognised as winners and will receive their prizes at a school assembly next week.
