THE Emmaus College year 12 students celebrated their graduation by taking an emotional final walk out the school gates on Friday after the school’s liturgy service.
Family, friends, teachers and fellow students lined the walkways leading to the gates, congratulating the students on graduating.
Tears of joy and sadness streamed down student’s and parent’s faces as they made their final walk out the gates.
Year 12 student Hayley Bowyer reflected on her time spent at Emmaus College.
“I have spent the last 13 years of my life here, the school is home to me,” she said.
“My classmates are my family, we have laughed together, cried together, argued together and of course grown up together.
“Together we have shared the journey and now we all have our own special role in the Emmaus story.
“The next step in our journey will be tough, in some ways it should be, that it what it is all about. To the graduating class of 2015, regardless of your experiences over the past years, we have shaped each other for better or for worse.”
Principal Kevin Schwede addressed the year 12 students for the last time with some words of encouragement.
“Let your time be an inspiration for living, intensifying the exhilaration of existence,” he said.
“You are lucky to be alive and have the gift of an Emmaus education.”
