Emmaus College year 12 student Scott Oberle looks to have a bright future ahead of him after being accepted into Griffith University’s Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
The 17-year-old attended five days of auditions during the September school holidays and received an offer to attend the university on November 5.
“I have always wanted to go to the Conservatorium my whole life,” he said.
“I was super excited and went to my dad and said it really subtly and he just got up and hugged me and was really excited as well.”
A talented guitar player, Scott picked up the instrument at eight-years-old.
Scott said the audition process was grueling and required him to play three songs.
“It was nerve-racking,” he said.
“I played my first two songs really well and on the third one, before I started I was shaking so much, I had to take a second.”
Along with his audition, Scott had to attend an interview and build a portfolio, including an audio CD of songs he recorded, as part of his application for the university.
Scott has chosen to study a Bachelor of Popular Music and hopes to form a band when he attends the university in 2016.
Upon competing his degree, Scott will have sound knowledge in recording, performance, stagecraft, sound editing, composition and song writing, copyright, collaboration, publishing, music trends and music distribution.
“With this degree I could become a live sound technician and a music producer or I can go on after to do an extra course in secondary education to become a music teacher, but that is the back up,” he said.
Scott has played guitar in the Emmaus stage band, performing solo as well as in a group during his time at the college.
His favourite music is country rock and musical influences include Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and Luke Bryan.
