POLICE have confirmed a body found in the Pimpama River on Thursday is that of missing Chambers Flat girl Tiahleigh Palmer.
Tiahleigh was reported missing on Thursday as police widened their search for the 12-year-old, who was last seen alive at a Marsden educational facility on Friday, October 30.
Three fisherman reportedly found the girl’s body in a grassy area on the banks of the river near the Kerkin Road North bridge.
Superintendent Dave Hutchinson said police efforts to identify the body were initially hampered by its "significant decomposition".
Forensic investigators and police divers were on the scene today.
An investigation centre has been established at the Logan Police Complex as detectives continue to investigate the 12-year-old’s death.
Police are appealing to the public to come forward if they were in the vicinity of the bridge over the Pimpama River on Kerkin Road North within the last seven days.
Detectives are also appealing to anyone who may have seen any people or vehicles that appeared suspicious or out of place to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
