THIS Year’s Book Week theme is ‘Books Light Up Our World’ and Canterbury College lit up their auditorium today with a parade to celebrate their love of books.
Students from kindy to year 6 wore elaborate costumes and dressed up as characters from their favourite books.
Teacher librarian Megan Stuart said Book Week was fantastic because it got students thinking about books.
“The focus, more or less, is on the library and that, i think, is the beauty,” she said.
“This school aims for high academic achievement, so to have a day to have a bit of fun is a luxury everybody gets involved with and that's great.”
As part of Book Week for the school library captains Liam Bromley and Emily Ramsey recommended books for younger students to read.
Liam recommended prep students read The Gruffalo.
Emily’s favourite book is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and said she always looked forward to Book Week.
“You can enjoy time dressing up with your friends and show people what book you like to read and dress up as,” she said.
Head of college Donna Anderson was pleased with the array of costumes the students prepared for the parade.
“The parade was exceptionally good because the outfits took a lot of time and the students got to dress up as their favourite characters,” she said.
Other Book Week activities throughout the week included find the golden ticket, a book fair in the library and a sausage sizzle.
Alice in Wonderland was the theme of the day at Canterbury College, with many teachers and students dressing up as characters from the popular Lewis Carroll book to celebrate it’s 150th anniversary.
