JIMBOOMBA Little Athletics is looking forward to another exciting year of track and field with just over 200 athletes joining the club at its first sign on for the new season held last Friday.
Centre manager, Peta Smith, said lots of exciting things had been happening at the club in recent months to benefit the club and members.
“Over the winter break the club has extended two of its long jump pits to create double pits which will reduce waiting times. The club has also put up three new lighting poles to improve lighting during evening competitions and training,” she said.
“Logan City Council has installed a disabled parking spot and will soon commence work on a male amenities block to match the female block which was built two years ago.
“ The club has also been successful in obtaining a Gambling Community Benefit grant for an electronic timing system which includes timing gates.”
The club’s second sign on will be held this coming Friday between 5:50pm and 7:30pm at the club’s ground on Henderson Road, Jimboomba.
The first competition evening for the under 6s to under 9s age groups will be Friday September 4, with the under 10s to under 17s age groups starting on September 11.
The Tiny Tots program play athletics program for three and four year olds will start on Friday October 2.
“Some age groups are already filling up fast, particularly the Tiny Tots group,” Ms Smith said
The club will be holding a free training and coaching day on Sunday August 30 attended by qualified Little Athletics Queensland coaches who will cover events including sprints and block starts, hurdles, high jump, javelin and other jumps and throws events.
