SIXTEEN Flagstone State Community College students will rely on pedal power at the Willowbank Raceway on Thursday as they compete in the 2015 RACQ All Schools Pedal Prix.
The two day event, held over Thursday and Friday this week, pits about 700 high school students against one another in a competition based on speed and skill.
The students will race a human powered vehicle (HPV) around the 1km track, attempting to out-lap their opponents.
They will take turns pumping the pedals during the relay-style race, which last six hours, as well as being on hand to repair any mechanical faults with their HPV.
Flagstone College teacher David Muirhead said the students were looking forward to the competition.
He said it was the second time the school had entered the Pedal Prix, after putting in a solid first showing at the 2013 event.
"The students have restored our original HPV from two years ago," he said.
"We are hoping to do well."
The students were out on the school tennis courts today practicing their strategy.
The group includes students from years 7 to 12.
