LOGAN students have a new employment pathway with the official opening of the $3 million Logan Scenic Rim Trade Training Centre.
The centre has been constructed across three local schools. It includes an electrotechnology annexe at Flagstone State Community College, laboratory facilities at Park Ridge State High School and an automotive workshop at Beaudesert State High School.
Flagstone State Community College principal Jude Fox said the centre would give school students the skills and qualifications needed to seek employment after year 12.
"The official opening of the Logan Scenic Rim Trade Training Centre and specifically our electrotechnology annexe marks the culmination of a project which began actually in 2009 here," she said.
"We were searching for the types of industries that would best give our young people the skills and qualifications to move into employment and... electrotechnology was an industry area showing significant growth and one that would long be providing employment opportunities."
She said the school's first electrotechnology class started in 2014.
"Its first cohort of now year 12 students will graduate at the end of the year with a Certificate II in Electrotechnology, which will ensure they have the skills and knowledge to chase employment in the industry," she said.
The Flagstone component of the centre cost $900,000.
Wright MP Scott Buchholz was at the opening and congratulated the school on getting the centre going.
"The new facilities at the Logan Scenic Rim Trade Training Centre... will give students the best chance to learn workplace skills. For many students, learning a trade will be the key to a job in a wide range of industries," he said.
