MAIN Roads has replaced two incorrect speed signs which had north and southbound drivers doing different speeds along Waterford-Tamborine Road.
The 80km/h signs at Anzac Avenue (southbound) and Mollenhagen Road (northbound) were replaced with 90km/h signs on Monday, three days after Jimboomba Times questioned the department.
A Main Roads spokesman said the signs were replaced at the earliest opportunity.
"We were recently advised incorrect signage had been installed, which indicated a speed limit 10 km/h less than the 90 km/h permitted," he said.
"We amended our planned works schedule to replace the signs."
The signs were reportedly incorrect for about a year, following an error made during works outside the My Home and the River development.
As of last week, drivers travelling south from Logan Village were doing so at 80km/h, after passing Anzac Avenue. This 80km/h zone continued until just after Pioneer Road, where the speed limit increased to 90km/h.
Northbound drivers, however, were being told the road was 90km/h before reaching Pioneer Drive, according to a 90km/h sign just after Hotz Road.
These drivers were then continuing to do 90km/h until reaching the 80km/h sign at Mollenhagen Road - travelling 10km/h faster than drivers heading south.
Tamborine man Gerard McDonald contacted Main Roads about the error last October.
“They (Main Roads) acknowledged that the wrong signs had been put in there, not by the Main Roads department but by the contractors that were doing the work,” Mr McDonald said.
“They said that they would fix it up as a matter of priority... (but) what happens to all the people who’ve been booked for driving illegally, if any have they should be reimbursed.
"I think that the fact now the signs (were) incorrect for over a year... is not a matter of priority.”
The replacement of the signs was covered as part of Main Roads' general maintenance budget.
