THE awards will still be given out but there will be no gala event for this year’s Logan Country Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.
The chamber has scrapped the awards dinner amid struggles around organising it and concerns about the potential financial impact on the chamber.
Chamber members were notified of the decision by email last Wednesday.
The notice to members explained the awards would still be distributed, with several local businesses having already completed their applications.
Newly-elected chamber president Kelly Cousins said she understood local businesses banked on the awards to boost representation of their businesses.
She alluded that debate earlier in the year about the event’s location was a contributing factor in its cancellation.
“At the end of the day, the small businesses want to have the award, that logo to go on the end of their emails, they need that award,” she said.
“I think we do need them but when there’s a battle about where it’s going to happen, Emmaus was just out of ball park for money and effort and then Springfield is out of the area, people did not support that.
“I would love to see it go ahead but its extremely messy now.”
