KELLY Cousins is again president of the Logan Country Chamber of Commerce almost four months after her shock resignation from the role.
The owner of Jimboomba business CPM landscaping was elected without opposition at the chamber’s AGM last Wednesday.
Despite concern ahead of the AGM that the group could be forced to fold due to a lack of interest in committee positions, all key positions were filled after nominations from the floor.
In nominating for president, Ms Cousins was forced to defend her commitment to the role when questioned by a member about her previous resignation.
“The only guarantee you have from me is that I’m here today, standing up in a position I’ve already done for eight or nine months,” she said.
“I’m really excited, I love the chamber, I really missed the chamber when I left, I didn’t want to leave but I needed to set an example and show people how much work is involved so that they would either step up or step away.
“It ended up being a health concern for me... (and) I did leave, because I didn’t get the support from the committee that I had.
“We have a new committee tonight. I’m hoping that together we can be an amazing chamber, that this will be the best year.”
Ms Cousins said the chamber had an important role to play locally.
“This community is booming... (but) if we don’t have a group that supports small business, how can we benefit. I’m going to do my best because I appreciate the chamber and what it does for me,” she said.
Bob Wiley and Kerry Menck were elected as vice-presidents, Carly Hookem as treasurer and Kirstie Starr-Nolan as secretary.
Peter Spencer was elected as a committee member, with nominations for Shane Osbourne and Greg Birkbeck as committee members received and accepted on the night, but not yet confirmed as the two were absent.
Meanwhile, a decision was also made at the AGM to cancel the chamber's business awards dinner, which would have been held this Saturday.
