HOPES of Alma Park Zoo moving to Logan have been dashed with council on Tuesday terminating the zoo's lease.
In March 2011, Logan City Council, together with Alma Park Zoo's John Quinn, announced plans for the zoo to relocate to Logan as part of the Loganholme Tourism Precinct.
Since then, little has happened publicly with the project and rumours have abounded that the zoo would not be coming.
On Tuesday, council released a statement saying it had terminated the lease agreement with Logan APZ Pty Ltd because it had "failed to comply with the terms of that agreement".
"As the matter may be subject to legal proceedings, further details cannot be disclosed at this point in time," council deputy CEO strategy and sustainability Todd Rohl said.
"However, council can say that Logan APZ Pty Ltd had a development approval since January 2014 and the actual development of the site had been firmly in their hands since then.
"Council is extremely disappointed in the failure of Logan APZ Pty Ltd to deliver upon its obligations and is taking action to see tourism development occur in this precinct.
"As a result, expressions of interest will be called for use of the site based on the previously issued Loganholme Tourism Precinct Master Plan."
When announced, it was said bringing the zoo to Logan would be an "economic boom" for the city and create 160 jobs during construction as well as ongoing employment.
