THOUSANDS of people turned out for a day of fun at a bumper edition of the Emmaus College Carnival on Saturday.
According to organisers, about 4000 people streamed though the gates and the showgrounds were a writhing mass of people of all ages eating, drinking and having fun as they enjoyed the carnival.
The biggest crowdpleaser was the camel races, with hundreds of people lining the racetrack to catch a glimpse of the very unique spectacle as they raced throughout the day.
The Emmaus College Carnival also featured rides, jumping castles, a mini-sideshow alley, food stalls, a student art exhibit, live music, a train and dozens of displays and community tents.
Community spirit was high and children happily roamed the large showgrounds sharing fairy floss and slushy drinks in warm and sunny weather.
Carnival organiser Selma Schuller said the 2015 carnival was a wonderful success.
"We're thrilled with it, we had a lot of last minute layout changes due to the flooding but the school community responded really well and everyone seems really enthusiastic about it, she said.
"We have over 60 market stalls, that's double on last year, we have a new rides package, and we've been able to utilise our lovely new building for our art show."
Ms Schuller said the huge turnout had made all the hard work worth it.
"It was a lot of hard work, but the community got right behind us and helped out, the business community were great with sponsorship of the camels," she said.
"Stuff like that makes it all come together."
