JESSIE Green has three loves in his life, The Simpsons, coke and his mum, Patricia Martin.
The 26-year-old, who lives with cerebral palsy, has a high quality of life with his mum and stepfather Glen Martin, who care for him at their Boronia Heights home.
Jessie's condition developed in tragic circumstances when he was just six months old.
Ms Martin said during open heart surgery, her young son was left without oxygen for too long, leading to brain damage.
The condition affects Jessie's ability to move and speak clearly but it doesn't stop him giving you a hearty "hello" upon meeting.
"Jessie has been doing well and lived a full and active life," Ms Martin said.
"However over the last year we have noticed that Jessie is requiring more care with both his physical and psychological (needs)."
With Jessie's condition deteriorating, the family are now faced with either funding an expensive bathroom upgrade, or putting their son into a care facility.
"Jessie's a one-on-one person and in those sort of facilities you don't get one-on-one," Mr Martin said.
"Our ultimate goal is to keep him here at home for as long as we possibly can and this is what we've got to do."
The Martins have received a funding grant from St Michael's Home Assist program, bringing their total fundraising efforts to $13,800 so far.
They need $18,500 to upgrade the bathroom to meet Jessie's high level needs.
"We are still so many dollars short," Ms Martin said.
"The local community has been really good, but we still need help."
The family is hosting a sausage sizzle and selling raffle tickets at Park Ridge Produce from 8am until 4pm this Saturday, May 16.
They are also aiming to host a garage sale at their Lutton Court home on Saturday, May 23 and a fundraising dinner at the Park Ridge Tavern on June 5, with tickets costing $25 per person.
