ENERGEX began work to erect 25-metre concrete power poles on Waterford-Tamborine Road this week as the Loganlea to Jimboomba power line continues to take shape.
An Energex spokesman said work on the northern section of the project is now largely complete.
He said the section south of Logan Village was also progressing well, with 80 per cent of the poles now in place.
"The far southern section, around Camp Cable Road where Energex and landowners have worked together to seek a deviation of the approved line route, is progressing through the approval stage," he said.
The spokesman said Energex was still in talks with council to relocate the planned route off the Logan River.
"Constructive discussions with the local council regarding the middle/river section are continuing," he said.
"Energex is working to complete the project in time for the 2016-17 summer, storm season."
President of the VETO action group Paul Casbolt said the new poles were a sign of things to come.
"If people are shocked by what they see here, wait until they go through Logan Village," he said.
He said the overhead power line along Waterford-Tamborine Road posed a safety risk.
"This particular pole is only a few metres away from Waterford-Tamborine Road on a bend, opposite Pioneer Drive, and will be an immovable collision object for any cars that fail to take the bend," he said.
Mr Casbolt said his group would continue to advocate to move the power line off the Logan River and underground.
