JIMBOOMBA Relay for Life has thanked Times journalist Natalie Hart for her work with the organisation during her final week with the paper.
For the past three years she has worked closely with past Relay chairman David Kenny to help create awareness of the Cancer Council Queensland (CCQ) fundraiser and encourage teams to sign up.
Ms Hart was presented with a Relay shirt, certificate of appreciation and CCQ bear.
She said she had met many inspiring people battling cancer during her time at the paper, none more so that 10-year-old Lucy Newman.
"I have had the privilege of writing stories with Lucy and her mum Julie at different times throughout her treatment and her resilience and positive attitude are remarkable," Ms Hart said.
"As is the courage of all the people living with cancer, their families and carers who I have spoken to."
Ms Hart, who finished on Friday, said the past four years as a journalist at the Times had been a steep learning curve but very rewarding.
"It was my first journalism job and having come from a science background I had a lot to learn," she said.
"The community here has always been very helpful and willing to talk to me and I have really enjoyed telling their stories.
"I have met a lot of wonderful people and look forward to staying in touch."
