AS veterans march in the Greenbank RSL sub-branch's Anzac Day parade on April 25 poppies will guide them in their route down Anzac Avenue.
The poppies are being painted on power poles along Anzac Avenue to commemorate the Anzac Centenary.
It is an initiative of Division 7 Councillor Laurie Smith, who allocates $45,000 of divisional council money a year to painting the power poles across his division.
Cr Smith said after talking to members of the Greenbank RSL sub-branch it was decided the power poles along Anzac Avenue should be painted with poppies.
"Poppies are synonymous with Anzac Day and Remembrance Day and so painting them on the power poles is a special way to mark what will be a very special day," he said.
Greenbank RSL sub-branch Anzac Day committee member Tom McGee said the poppies brought awareness of Anzac Day to the public.
"They look really good, they brighten up the street and, with Anzac Day not far away, are a fitting reminder of what our soldiers fought for."
