SIX teams and 16 people signed up on Saturday to take part in this year's Jimboomba Relay for Life fundraiser.
The sign-ups occurred at a successful awareness day outside Woolworths at the Jimboomba Shopping Centre.
Relay vice chairman David Kenny said he was pleased and excited about the amount of interest shown in Relay on Saturday.
He said three of the six teams which signed up were first-time teams and the other 16 people signed up to existing teams.
"People came up to chat to us to find out more about what Relay was all about, to tell us about their friends and family who had cancer and thank us for what we were doing," Mr Kenny said.
"We also had $128 donated on the day as well, which will go towards our fundraising total."
Members of the Jimboomba branch of Veteran Support and Advocacy Service Australia (VSASA) were also at the awareness day raising money through a monster raffle.
Mr Kenny said there were now about 20 teams signed up to Relay, which was more than at the same time last year.
Jimboomba Relay for Life will be on October 10 and 11 at Hills College and a fundraising goal of $175,000 has been set.
Relay For Life involves teams of 10 to 15 people walking continuously around a track overnight to celebrate cancer survival and raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland.
All funds raised are invested into vital cancer research, education programs and patient support services.
