HILLS Golf Academy is in the running for two awards at the Queensland Golf Industry Awards next Tuesday.
The academy's director of Golf, Tom Berndt, has been nominated for PGA teacher of the year, while its junior golf program is up for program of the year.
Mr Berndt said it was exciting for the academy to be nominated in two categories.
He said the junior golf program produced many high quality junior players and was deserving of a nomination.
"In 2013 Jiwon Jeon was our junior champion of the district and she won the Greg Norman masters and then last year Charlie Pilon was our junior champion and also won the Greg Norman masters," Mr Berndt said.
"The success of our program is a combination of high quality coaching and very strong sport science back up, like physios, psychologists and dietitians.
"The facility at Hills where the students practice and train is great and there's no real down time for them so they really get the opportunity to hone their skills."
Mr Berndt said his own nomination as PGA teacher of the year was an honour and reflected his work as a golf coach over the past 40 years.
He said he had hoped he had made a positive difference to Hills in the six years he had been at the academy.
"We have helped improve the culture of the students and elevated the quality of coaching," Mr Berndt said.
"When I came here I brought in my own sports science people and we have been able to work together to produce some top golfers."
Hills Golf Academy coaches 70 full-time junior golfers but also works with about 200 primary school students in an eight-week program and 1370 short-term tour students.
The Queensland Golf Industry Awards will be on March 31 on the Gold Coast.
