NAIL-BITING football was played in rainy conditions at Jimboomba over the weekend.
Captain Joshua Baskett made the suggestion to apply pressure for the first 10 minutes, which was welcomed by the coach who has been keen to the side to apply early pressure in games.
In the first five minutes history repeated itself with a determined Narangba side pressing high.
Attacks were easily dealt with by the strong Jimboomba United Football Club (JUFC) back line. Five minutes in the home side fired up with quick counter attacks led by the midfield of Sam Barrett, Damion Holledge and Drew Pearce.
A shot fired in by Drew Pearce rebounded off the keeper for Corey Schofield, who always follows through, to slot the ball past the keeper with confidence.
The goal was the result of great awareness and determination from Schofield, and took JUFC to a 1-nil lead.
Narangba fought back hard and were awarded a goal with a cheeky chip over the keeper to draw level.
Thirty-five minutes in JUFC changed it up, putting striker Joshua Baskett into the midfield and welcomed back Michael Hibbert from injury up front.
Baskett, being the team player that he is, slotted in well and Hibbert certainly made an impact up front, but at half time the score remained level at 1-all.
The half time talk was positive for JUFC with keeper Joel Ward geeing the boys up for their first-half performance.
And with positive talk out of the players, the team started the second half with confidence.
There were plenty of chances in the action-packed second half.
Keeper Joel Ward kept JUFC in the game once again with a superb dive to his right to palm the ball away for a corner.
From the side line the ball was destined for the back of the net with Ward showing lightning reflexes to keep it out.
A corner to JUFC found the head of Drew Pearce.
It looked in for sure but the ball hit the cross bar, bounced off the line and was parried away by the Narangba keeper.
In a massive blow to the squad Damion Holledge went down in the Narangba box from a corner with an ankle injury.
Narangba fought back hard and were awarded a goal in overtime from a corner.
JUFC, not done, continued to press and were awarded a penalty in the remaining seconds of the match.
A well hit strike from Baskett could not have been put any wider to the right but a freak save from the Narangba keeper denied JUFC the draw, with the final score 2-1 to Narangba.
Steve Simm was player of the match.
