THE president of Jimboomba Amateur Basketball is hopeful the return of a Logan-based Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) side will help boost the sport locally.
Jenny Bishop said the announcement earlier this month that a South East Queensland team would re-enter the WNBL and be based at Browns Plains was great news.
"The seniors girls and boys players were talking and saying 'how good is that, we can go and watch games again' because some of them are really avid supporters and would go to every game," she said.
Ms Bishop said her family would be among those who would support the side.
"We will be travelling up to watch as many home games as possible," she said.
Ms Bishop said she was hopeful the as yet unnamed team would make the trip out to Jimboomba for a coaching clinic.
"Hopefully once they get up and running they can come down and do a skills session with the kids," she said.
"It would be very beneficial for the juniors, especially the girls as we need to get girls into sport and keep them in it, that's one of the focuses of the basketball association this year - keeping girls in the sport," she said.
Ms Bishop said with uncertainty surrounding the men's national basketball league (NBL) the WNBL announcement was even more significant.
"It's positive news for the sport and some of the games are on the television again now which is good, if the (Brisbane) Bullets (NBL side) were returned that'd be great," she said.
