CANTERBURY College student Aaron Dora is one step closer to securing his dream of a career in the arts after being awarded a full-fee scholarship to attend the Queensland Senior Youth Ensemble.
The weekly acting class is run by the Queensland Theatre Company for year 12 students.
Aaron said he was thrilled to be involved for the second year with the state's preeminent theatre company.
"It's a full year experience for me, I actually did it last year and it was just amazing, it's a great opportunity because we get to work with professional actors and have a show at their theatre," he said.
Aaron has already begun work with the company and is looking forward to developing his acting ability as well as playing a role in a production in July.
"The show is called The Landmine Is Me, it's about teenagers and being in school, some of it we actually devised ourselves," he said.
"The writers asked us to do some improv work and they filmed it and went away and found a way to work it into the script which is great.
"We are currently working on building skills as an ensemble as well as creating physicality and mannerisms based on our individual interpretations of the characters in the script."
Aaron, who recently returned from the United States with a group of Canterbury College students who visited the Interlochen Arts Academy student program, said his goal on finishing year 12 would be to continue to work towards a career in the arts.
"An acting career or a career in the arts in general would be great whether that directing or acting or any role in the arts but acting is what I'm enjoying the most so I'm going after that," he said.
