TAMBORINE Village Lions Club is calling for community feedback on a proposed cenotaph for Tamborine.
Club secretary David Walker is currently putting a proposal together for Scenic Rim Council for a cenotaph to be built on council land adjacent to the Lions clubhouse on Waterford-Tamborine Road.
He said initially the club wanted the cenotaph built in time to commemorate the Anzac centenary in April but that timeframe was now unlikely.
"The proposed plan is to build the cenotaph amongst the trees about 10 metres back from the road, where council land starts, and to build a gravel area in front of it for cars to park," Mr Walker said.
"We have been to council and let them know what we want to do and they think it is a great idea so now we have to lodge a preliminary proposal."
Mr Walker said the club was prompted to call for a cenotaph at Tamborine after reading a story about Tamborine man Maurice Delpratt, who was a WWI prisoner of war.
He said there was no cenotaph to commemorate Mr Delpratt or any of the other veterans who hailed from the area.
"We want to create a place where local people can come and recognise those soldiers who came from the Tamborine area and served in war," Mr Walker said.
Mr Walker said a community information meeting would be held on March 14 at Tamborine Memorial Hall at 6.30pm and all were welcome to attend.
"We would love feedback on what the cenotaph should look like, what people think of the location and any other ideas they have," he said.
