LOGAN City Councillor Graham Able says Prime Minister Tony Abbott is a "goose" for knighting Prince Philip on Australia Day.
The division five councillor made his views public at the first ordinary council meeting of 2015 on Wednesday.
"Our Prime Minister is a goose," Cr Able said.
"There are many, many good people, if he wanted to give a knighthood to, there are many decent people in Australia - teachers, nurses, people who volunteer their time."
Laughing along with the rest of the chamber, Logan Mayor Pam Parker interceded to quell Cr Able's criticism.
"We don't want any funding from (Mr Abbott) at all, do we Cr Able? I think we just lost it," she said.
"He has to put 50 per cent of the funding in for Wembley Road, did you know that?"
Cr Able refused to back down.
"I don't care. On this occasion I do not support the Prime Minister and I state that publicly," he said.
Mr Abbott's decision to knight the Queen's husband has come under heavy fire from social media and both sides of politics.
Retired defence force chief Angus Houston was also made a knight on Australia Day.
