LABOR candidate for Logan Linus Power has pledged to support Logan City Council's alternative route for the Loganlea to Jimboomba power line, if elected.
After meeting with representatives of the VETO action group at Logan Village, Mr Power said his party would support the council's proposed route if elected.
"We've been discussing with local community for some time about a good option which meets community's needs and is also economically proven and we're happy to support the Logan City Council's off-Logan River alternative to the Energex second Loganlea to Jimboomba power line," he said.
"That is an option that Logan City Council have said will cost the same or less than the cross-river options and has much more community support and that's why we're getting behind it."
VETO president Paul Casbolt welcomed the commitment but said he would continue to push both major parties for a public commitment to the off-river route.
"We've learned, this is our third election now, we need more than a candidate commitment, we need a party commitment," he said.
LNP candidate and sitting Logan MP Michael Pucci has advocated in support of Logan City Council and the community's prefered route for the past three years to no avail.
