JIMBOOMBA Gymnastics was awarded a Community Engagement Commendation at the Queensland Gymnastics Awards night on Friday.
Head coach Christine Mahoney said it was an honour to be one of only three clubs state-wide to be recognised with the award.
"It's about connecting with the community and promoting the sport," she said.
"Gymnastics is not just about cartwheeling and back flips its about moving your body so that's what we promote in the community, is for kids to just move their body for a healthy lifestyle."
As well as catering for all ages and abilities, she said the club encourages children with disabilities to join the sport, not only for fun and enjoyment, but to help with their disabilities.
"It helps with their rehabilitation, we've got a kid in a wheelchair who's been coming for years, she's got spina bifida so she feels part of a team doing it and it helps with her rehabilitation," she said.
"We'll take on any one in the community and just promote the sport and promote movement activities."
Mahoney said the award also recognised the work Jimboomba Gymnastics does to build relationships with the wider community.
This includes working with schools in the area, networking with other clubs and making connections with local businesses.
"We've got really enthusiastic coaches so when they go out and promote the sport through under 8s day and other events in the community, they have a passion about it, they want kids to be active," she said.
Mahoney said the sport was a great way to improve balance, strength and flexibility.
"We're doing the fundamentals of other sports, it benefits every one in every sport so that's why we're here," she said.
Jimboomba Gymnastics is in the process of relocating to a new space on Paul Court.
