FLAGSTONE'S Homestead Park will be upgraded with a basketball court and fitness equipment in the new year.
The $90,000 upgrade is a Logan City Council and state government joint initiative to encourage the community to be fit and healthy.
Division 11 Councillor Trevina Schwarz said the upgrade aimed to provide an activity hub for the area's youth.
"We have a lot of youths of that age group in Flagstone and it's been a concern of mine for a long time," she said.
Cr Schwarz said while demand for a skate park was high, the youth had also asked for a basketball court and gym equipment.
"We don't have land for a skate park yet unfortunately, I wish we did," she said.
Cr Schwarz said the fitness equipment would serve the wider community as well.
"It could be embellished into quite a nice environmental park that's suited to getting fit and healthy," she said.
Logan MP Michael Pucci said the Flagstone community was crying out for this infrastructure.
"It's good because it's not just for little kids. It's for youth, for adults, it's good for the whole family," he said.
The upgrade coincides with the construction of a park aimed at younger children on Reserve Drive.
