LOGAN paralympian Torita Isaac is reaching new heights in athletics, setting a new benchmark in the women's T38 400m sprint event.
The former Jimboomba Athletics club member ran the 400m in 1 minute, 5.62 seconds last weekend at the All Comers meet at the University of Queensland.
She broke her own under 20s record with the run, as well as the Queensland open record for that event.
She said she was "over the moon" with the result.
"I had run the 400m in 1 minute, 8 seconds (earlier) this month," she said.
"I wasn't happy with that and so my coach encouraged me to run it again at this UQ event.
"All week (beforehand) I was doubting myself and then this time came out of the blue."
Isaac said she had only started running the 400m event again earlier this year.
"I set myself a goal at the start of 2014 to run a 1 minute, 5 seconds by the end of 2014," Isaac said.
"I only started running 400m sprints in April this year (and) I've knocked a complete 5 seconds off my time so far.
"I've been working so hard and it hasn't been easy at all."
Isaac, who represented Australia at the London Paralympics in 2012, said she was now focussing on the IPC Athletics World Championships, to be held in Doha, Qatar in 2015.
