MORE than 1000 Emmaus College staff, students and their families celebrated the festive season at the school's Christmas carols event on Wednesday night.
Many wore santa hats, reindeer ears, Christmas t-shirts and other festive outfits and gathered on the oval to listen to their favourite carols, sung by the students.
The night ended with a large fireworks display, made possible through the school's five cent Friday's, where families donated their five cent coins to raise money for the display.
Principal Kevin Schwede said it was fantastic to have so many people attend the carols event, which was organised by the school's Parents and Friends (P and F) committee.
"It brought the school community together to relax, celebrate the festive season, sing along to some carols and have fun," he said.
"Many people brought blankets, chairs and food and really made a night of it."
P and F secretary Selma Schuller said the carols event was the first one the school had held outdoors and it was a success.
"It was a lot to organise but well worth it to see everyone enjoying themselves. It's really starting to feel like Christmas now," she said.
