CONSTRUCTION is under way on a new bike-themed park at Flagstone, due to open early next year.
The park on Reserve Drive, opposite Songbird Circuit, will feature a safe cycling course for youngsters who are just starting out on bikes, skates and scooters.
In Febuary this year, Flagstone woman Melinda McVay petitioned Flagstone developer Peet Limited to build a skate park for the youth of the area.
Ms McVay said she was pleased to see a park being built for Flagstone families but questioned its suitability for teens.
"I think it's great having something for the little kids but it would have been nice to give some thought to the older kids too," she said.
Peet Limited CEO Brendan Gore said the park would be an enjoyable family destination, and an easy ride from existing homes, shops and schools via a network of connected pathways.
"We chose a bike theme for the new park because riding is a popular and healthy pastime the whole family can enjoy," he said.
"It also reflects the overall masterplan for Flagstone which is all about creating a community that is well connected - both physically and socially."
The new park incorporates a miniature roadway, with traffic signs and safety crossings, native gardens, open space, barbecues and under-cover seating.
