LOGAN City Council has joined in a statewide tribute to former Queensland premier Wayne Goss in lowering the flags outside its chambers to half-mast.
A public memorial service in honour of Mr Goss, who died on November 10 after a battle with brain cancer, is being held today (Friday).
The service, which started at 2pm, follows a decision by Mr Goss's family to decline an offer by current Premier Campbell Newman for a state funeral.
Instead, in line with the wishes of Mr Goss's family, a public memorial is being held at Brisbane's Gallery of Modern Art.
Mr Goss served as chair of the Queensland Art Gallery Board of Trustees from 1999 to 2008.
Mr Goss was Member for Logan during his time in parliament.
