THE House With No Steps (HWNS) at Logan Village celebrated the opening of its sensory garden with the community on Tuesday.
More than 50 people toured the new garden, which has garden beds with thriving herbs, a water feature, ornaments, fragrant plants, fruit trees and sports activities to play.
HWNS is a centre for disabled adults and the garden was built by the centre with the help of a $5000 Envirogrant from Logan City Council, as well as local businesses, community groups and individuals who gave their time at working bees.
HWNS support manager Annette Briers said the open day was held to say thank you to everyone who had contributed to getting the sensory garden up and running.
She said it looked fantastic and service users at the centre loved it.
"The sensory garden gives them another set of activities and it really stimulates them," Ms Briers said.
"It has had a positive impact on all of our service users but especially one who doesn't talk a lot or take her hands from her face much.
"Since we've had the sensory garden she has just taken herself down to it and talks and really enjoys the area, which is great to see."
Ms Briers said HWNS hoped to further develop the outside area to benefit its service users through putting up shade sails, installing more sensory equipment, planting more fruit trees and creating sand and water activities.
