JIMBOOMBA State School students claimed the coveted participation trophy at an AFL Queensland fun day at Jimboomba on Wednesday.
The event, held at the Jimboomba Redbacks grounds on Henderson Road, set teams from Jimboomba, Flagstone and Woodhill State Schools, as well as students from Emmaus and Hills Colleges against each other.
Scores were not kept for any of the games, rather the students were judged for their enthusiasm and willingness to give it a go.
AFL Gold Coast development co-ordinator Matthew Palmer said the students from Jimboomba State School had done themselves proud.
"Jimboomba has had eight teams involved and have been training for four to five weeks, they've really given it their all," he said.
"They are an up and coming school in the AFL."
Mr Palmer said all schools involved in the fun day had put in a great effort.
"The participation level from all the schools has been high," he said.
"There has also been a lot going on behind the scenes with the schools bringing everyone up to speed and getting organised."
He said hoped to make the fun day an annual event for the area.
"It has been fantastic, we definitely want to make it a regular thing," Mr Palmer said.
"We would love to see a secondary event run as well with all these kids transitioning into high school at some point.
"If we can invite more people in from other areas even like Park Ridge it would be great to see a competition like this run over a couple of weeks."
