PARK Ridge State School was a sea of red on Friday to mark Day for Daniel.
A special assembly was held to celebrate the day and reinforce the message of Recognise, React, Report - developed by Daniel Morcombe's parents, Bruce and Denise, to help children stay safe, after Daniel was taken from a Sunshine Coast bus stop in 2003.
The school's student council ran the assembly, which included songs from the school choir and year one students, a skit about what children should do if they do not feel safe and a skipping demonstration to highlight the importance of personal safety.
Adopt-a-cops, Constables Barry Hartshorn and Michael McEwan from Browns Plains Police Station, were also at the assembly to support the students and promote safety.
After the assembly the school gathered outside to release red balloons into the sky in remembrance of Daniel, who was wearing a red t-shirt when he disappeared.
Speaking at the assembly principal Peter James said Day for Daniel was significant for everyone at the school.
"It's a really important day that came out of the tragedy of Daniel Morcombe and all of the good work that followed from his parents in setting up the Morcombe Foundation," he said.
"The really important message is Recognise, React and Report, which the Morcombe Foundation set up and which we are using through the Daniel Morcombe curriculum that we have adopted here at Park Ridge.
"It's about your safety and welfare girls and boys."
