JIMBOOMBA’S newest attraction officially opened on Thursday drawing crowds of onlookers to the grounds of Hills College.
The new supercross track was given the tick of approval from pro riders across Queensland, who took to the track in style about 3pm.
Traffic on the Mt Lindesay Highway slowed as car after car pulled over to watch the display.
Jimboomba will host the third round of the Queensland Supercross Championships at the new track on December 6.
Event organiser and sponsor Scott Bannan said Thursday’s turn out was a great indication of how popular the December event would be.
The Jimboomba resident said he was thrilled to see pro riders take to the track, which has long been a dream of his.
“I have been working for 10 years to bring this to Jimboomba and its all paid off,” he said on Thursday.
“It is fantastic, just look at the crowd, it (the December event) will sell out for sure.”
Pro rider Kirk Gibbs, who is currently running fifth in the championship, praised the Jimboomba track on Thursday.
“The track is awesome, it is one of the best I’ve ever ridden,” he said.
“Hats off to everyone involved.”
Division 11 Councillor Trevina Schwarz worked with Mr Bannan to bring the track to Jimboomba.
She said the track would “put Jimboomba on the map”.
“This is possibly the biggest thing that will ever come to Jimboomba,” she said.
“It is fantastic to see the community already getting behind it.
“I want to thank Hills College and Scott for getting this off the ground, I absolutely applaud everyone involved for their great work.”
