THE Queensland Supercross Championships will roar into Jimboomba in December with work on a world class motocross track now under way at Hills College.
Jimboomba will host the third round of the championships on the new track, visible from the Mt Lindesay Highway, on December 6.
The event is expected to draw thousands of supercross fans to the region, with top Australian riders Jake Moss, Luke Clout, Adam Moneo and others competing.
Event organiser and passionate motocross rider Scott Bannan said he was thrilled the championships would be staged in Jimboomba.
He said the event was given the green light just a few weeks ago and earthworks on the track began as soon as possible.
"There are some passionate motocross fans in the Jimboomba area," Mr Bannan said.
"We are expecting the event to sell out, it will be extremely popular with adults and kids alike."
The new motocross track will be a permanent fixture in the Jimboomba region, with plans to stage multiple events there each year.
"Depending on the success of this first event, we are hoping to have about four major events on the track each year," Mr Bannan said.
"We are hoping its popularity will grow, there were about 35,000 people at the last supercross event held in Brisbane."
Mr Bannan is organising the event in partnership with Hills College, which will run a food stall and bar for attendees.
Hills College P and F president Jennifer Reeves said all proceeds raised from food and drink sales would go towards school amenities and resources.
Local businesses and Logan City Council are also backing the event.
The Queensland Supercross Championships will kick off in Leyburn, near Toowoomba, on Saturday.
The second round will be held in Dundas on November 22, just two weeks before the Jimboomba event.
There will be limited seating at the Jimboomba track and tickets to the event must be bought in advance.
