AN eight-year-old Jimboomba boy pricked himself with a needle he found at Rotary Park last weekend.
Police say sometime over October 11 and 12 the boy entered the toilet at the park, where he found an uncapped syringe on the ground.
He picked it up and accidentally pricked himself with it.
His parents handed the syringe over to Jimboomba Police on Thursday and made a report on the incident.
Jimboomba Police Senior Sergeant Bill Sheehan said it was not known what the syringe had been used for but it would undergo forensic testing, which could help identify the person who had used it.
He said while this type of incident was not common, it highlighted the importance of parents talking to their children about not touching or picking up anything they find on the ground.
"The best advice would be to leave it and to go and get an adult," Senior Sergeant Sheehan said.
A Logan City Council spokeswoman said the incident had not been reported to council.
She said there was a sharps disposal unit in the Rotary Park toilet block, which was serviced twice a day on Saturday and Sunday.
"No sharps were found in Rotary Park's toilet blocks over the weekend (of October 11 and 12), nor on Monday morning's regular service," the spokeswoman said.
