ENERGEX is urging people who rely on mains powered medical equipment to have a back up plan in case their power is cut.
In south-east Queensland more than 8000 people are reliant on mains powered medical equipment.
An Energex spokesman said Energex urged people with medical conditions to have a back up plan in place should power get cut unexpectedly by storms or other severe weather.
"The back up plans people have in place include obtaining additional oxygen bottles through the health system or medical provider or visiting their local medical centre or hospital," he said.
The warning comes after Jimboomba resident George Patton raised concern about a planned power outage to his home on Monday.
Energex sent out letters last week to about 800 homes and businesses in the Jimboomba and Beaudesert areas notifying them a power outage to upgrade the network would occur between 8am and 3pm.
Mr Patton suffers from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and requires oxygen every day.
Having only recently received the oxygen machine, he had not yet made a plan for what to do in a power outage.
Mr Patton phoned Energex to let them know of his situation but was not happy to be told he may need to leave the house for the day to access power.
"It's alright for some company to say make your own arrangements but it's very difficult for me to walk up to my front gate," he said.
Mr Patton and his wife Alma said they were considering getting a generator as back up for the mains power ahead of the storm season.
The Energex spokesman said for the safety of its crews and Mr Patton Energex could not leave just his house energised during planned works.
