NEW Beith man and land speed record holder Trevor Slaughter has always seen Logan City as a key member of his racing team.
On Tuesday he made that view official when he presented the city with a framed crew shirt at the ordinary council meeting.
Mr Slaughter, who is the Australian three litre wheel-driven vehicle land speed record holder, recently returned from the 24th Annual Speed Week at Lake Gairdner in South Australia.
Despite "terrible" weather conditions at the event putting his dream of going over 700km/h on hold, Mr Slaughter said Logan's sponsorship and support of his attempt was invaluable.
"When we got the shirts done we had two versions made... (one) for the general public and this yellow with the blue for crew," Mr Slaughter said on Tuesday.
"We see the Logan council and the Logan area as part of our crew.
"It is a partnership this relationship and we thank you very much for your help."
Mr Slaughter said his team learned "a hell of a lot" over the course of the trip.
"The salt conditions were absolutely terrible due to rain four weeks prior to the event so we didn't achieve too much at all," he said.
"But the car equalled its performance of the preceding year, which was done in perfect conditions, so we are getting somewhere along that road.
"The culmination of the event came about with me getting airborne at about 400km/h.
"I flew for about 30 metres and came down and broke the front suspension and that was the end of that.
"We packed up and came home and we are currently in the process of rebuilding the car at the front end, but it was a great experience."
Logan City Mayor Pam Parker said council was proud to have sponsored Mr Slaughter's record attempt.
"Trevor you will always be a champion in our book and you are a hero of Logan," she said.
"We thank you for your kind recognition, we were honoured to be able to support you."
