PARKLANDS Christian Centre will give residents an avenue to buy discounted groceries with fortnightly food packages to start on October 15.
The $30 food packages, available to anyone to buy, will contain fruit and vegetables, dairy products and pantry staples such as bread.
Parklands Christian Centre is working with Lighthouse Care in Loganholme, which will deliver the packages to the centre for distribution.
Pastor Mike Warman said the food packages were a great deal as they contained about $80 worth of food and only cost $30.
He said they would be a blessing to many people irrespective of their financial situation.
"A lot of our families in the Logan West area are finding it hard to make ends meet so you don't have to be homeless (to buy one)," Mr Warman said.
"But it is for homeless people too so they can come and we can buy it for them. They just need to be able to pick it up.
"We are hoping people will buy them for other people too, say for example if your neighbour is sick and they need help."
Mr Warman said while people were picking up their grocery packages each fortnight they could also enjoy a morning tea and live music.
"A lot of people are lonely so while they are here we can talk to them about how they are going, offer them some services and just take the time to listen," he said.
"Sometimes it doesn't take much to change circumstances. People just need a little support and they can get back on their feet."
The launch of the grocery packages on October 15 coincides with the official opening of the centre's Oppee Shoppe, which was recently renovated and expanded.
