A BEAUDESERT man is recovering in hospital from serious burns after a stunt went horribly wrong at the Beaudesert Show on Saturday.
During a stunt in the popular demolition derby, car bodies positioned upright were set on fire for stunt drivers to drive into them.
However, after driving into one of the flaming wrecks, the car Josh Sanders, 24, was in became engulfed in flames.
A video online shows that within seconds of his vehicle igniting, Sanders jumped from the burning vehicle with his clothing on fire.
He rolled on the ground to put the flames out while officials and emergency workers arrived with extinguishers and a fire truck.
Stunned show goers called out for Mr Sanders to drop and roll and fire crews to hurry during the blaze.
Mr Sanders was treated on site about 6.45pm for burns to his face, neck, leg and arms and was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital for further treatment.
Beaudesert Show Society president Ian Harrison said the show society's incident report team was currently investigating it.
"The show society acknowledges that there was an incident," Mr Harrison said.
"Over the years the show has improved its safety standards.
"We have been in touch with the gentleman and do wish him a speedy recovery."
