THE Jimboomba Redbacks senior AFL has been denied a spot in the grand final after suffering a 10-12-72 to 4-11-35 loss against Sandgate at Yeronga in the semi-finals on Friday night.
The Redbacks went into the match confident on the back of last week's 122-20 win over Yeronga, but were given a shock right from kick-off as Sandgate came out with guns blazing.
The Moreton Bay team kicked off the match as they meant to go on, finishing the first quarter with a 4-4-28 to 1-1-7 lead over Jimboomba.
Despite redoubled efforts in the second and third quarters, the Redbacks continued to make errors and were punished by the opposition, ultimately losing the match by 37 points.
Redbacks senior coach Craig Harley said he was gutted by the loss and the team had cracked under the pressure.
"We just didn't play well at all," he said.
"We started the first quarter in panic mode and couldn't recover.
"We put ourselves under pressure when we really didn't need to."
Harley said he did not think the team had run out onto the field with the right mindset.
"I don't think the boys came switched on. I think they thought they were going to have an easy game," he said.
Redbacks goals were kicked by Josh Harley, Matt Harley, Marc Ryan and Kim Watson.
Despite the loss and subsequent finals knock-out, Harley said the senior side had come a long way this year.
"It's a great achievement to get to semi-finals in the first pace, considering we had to rebuild the side virtually from scratch," Harley said.
"I'm pleased with with what we've achieved over the year.
"All the boys have got that hunger and will come back next year."

The team travelled to Alexandra Hills on Saturday in the pouring rain, but with the ball being extremely wet and slippery the Redbacks players had a hard time keeping hold of it.
The single Redbacks goal was kicked by Takashi Mears and despite the best efforts of the Redbacks, Ipswich came out on top.
The Redbacks are training hard and looking forward to taking on Wilston Grange at Logan in the preliminary finals game on Saturday.
