PARK Ridge State School students celebrated their favourite story book characters through costume for Book Week on Friday.
Students from prep to year 7 paraded their costumes for the school community and their families.
Teacher librarian Kathy Whitehead said the children loved dressing up as a character in their favourite book.
She said it was a great way for children to connect with the books they read.
"They look forward to dressing up all year," Ms Whitehead said.
"Book Week celebrates Australian authors and illustrators and the work they do for Australian literature.
"We encourage the students to read books, know the characters in them and develop a love of reading."
Year 1 students Madison Ladd and Amelia Silver said they liked The Cat in the Hat by Dr Zuess and enjoyed dressing as Thing One and Thing Two.
"We like Thing One and Thing Two because sometimes they can be naughty," Amelia said.
"It's fun dressing up the same too," Madison said.
The school also held a book fair in the library as part of Book Week, where students could buy books.
