PARK Ridge State High School's open boys AFL team came from behind to win its last home game of the season on Wednesday.
In front of cheering students and staff, the boys defeated Sandgate State High School 68-64 in a Brisbane Lions Cup match.
Coach Derek Berry said he could not be prouder of how the boys played.
He said both teams were evenly matched and the score was close for most of the game until Sandgate sneaked ahead.
"We were down by four points at three quarter time and with two and a half minutes to go Jonathon Fitzpatrick kicked two goals from the sideline to win the game," Mr Berry said.
"Everybody on the sidelines went ballistic. It was just amazing."
Mr Berry said the win was a great send off for the year 12 players in the team, who were playing their last ever game at the school.
"When we won you could just see how much it meant to those boys and especially because it was at home," he said.
"I think we won because we probably took more of the opportunities that came our way and applied more defensive pressure on Sandgate than we had in previous games.
"The boys had trained really hard in the lead up to the game and it paid off."
Outstanding player of the match was Ariki Gardner, who dominated throughout the whole game, Mr Berry said.
The team will have a week's rest before resuming training ahead of their last game of the season against Victoria Point State High School in a month.
The Park Ridge AFL junior boys side also had a win against Sandgate State High School in an earlier match at the school, defeating them 99-6, and will play off for third or fourth place in a couple of weeks.
