ENERGEX has responded to its critics, saying sufficient investigations have taken place to determine costings for all alternatives for the Loganlea to Jimboomba power line.
An Energex spokesman told the Times the $10 million cost estimates of two alternative routes were subject to detailed design.
"Our correspondence to council has always noted that the cost is subject to detailed design, which would be undertaken once council has committed in principle to the cost-sharing arrangements," he said.
The spokesman said the $10 million figure was based on "previous experience on similar projects".
"As the proposal is for an underground cable, initial cost estimates have some variability until the route can be adequately surveyed in detail, soil and rock testing is undertaken, and new legislative approvals are established," he said.
The spokesman laid blame for the disintegration of negotiations between Energex and Logan City Council firmly at the feet of Logan Mayor Pam Parker.
"Energex was very aware of comments made by the Mayor in the media - including those of August 6 - that flatly turned down the consideration of a compromise or contribution by council," he said.
