EIGHTY talented young netballers will put new skills to the test at a mini carnival to be held at Jimboomba this Sunday.
The players, including nine from Jimboomba, were selected from a field of 160 to participate in the Logan Wildcats Cubs program.
The junior development program was a new initiative for the Wildcats, targeting promising players aged 11 to 14.
The youngsters were coached by Wildcats players and coaches at training sessions across the Brisbane South region but have yet to play a game together.
Jimboomba Netball Association member Lori Barron, 11, said she was excited to take part in the carnival.
"I think it'd be fun to work with all of the girls as a team instead of individually," she said.
Layne Williams, 14, said she had learnt a lot from the Wildcats.
"The range of stuff that they teach us was so different," she said.
"It was defence and attacking and moving your feet."
Jimboomba Netball Association members and Wildcats players, Allie, 16, and Jordan Waugh, 18, said training the younger players was a great experience.
"It's really challenging but I've learnt a lot," Jordan said.
Wildcats president Kathy Warneke said Jimboomba was a great talent pool of netballers.
"The Wildcats coaches will certainly be watching closely and seeing great potential in these girls," she said.
As a Jimboomba local, Warneke said she was particularly glad to see the carnival on home turf.
"Because the Wildcats are a regional club its really great to get it out at Jimboomba," she said.
"We try to spread it around a bit."
